Nevada Donor Network is proud to partner with Adam’s Place, a nonprofit children’s bereavement resource for the Las Vegas community and even supports children nationally. The Camp Cope peer support groups offer youth ages 5-18 along with their parent(s) or caregiver(s) who are coping with grief and loss together. The goal of these groups is to help children connect with others who may be going through a similar tragedy. This reduces feelings of isolation which promotes and reinforces healthy coping mechanisms.
Adam’s Place has been an advocate in the field of childhood bereavement for over 15 years. They follow best practices and incorporate evidence-based approaches into the Camp Cope curriculum. This extends to their volunteer facilitator training as well. They want to ensure that everyone who encounters these children that are on such a vulnerable journey in their life have the proper knowledge and understanding to appropriately support them.
To make this resource accessible and available to anyone in need, Camp Cope is completely free for anyone who wishes to attend. All those who participate are given a confidential and safe environment to share their experiences and express their feelings related to grief. They engage in group activities and are shown tools that help them develop healthy coping skills. This is not group counseling or therapy. This makes this setting unique for another level of expression and transparency. Camp Cope has a structured curriculum with activities and themes specifically designed for each age group. The peer groups are segmented into littles (five to eight years old), middles (nine to twelve years old) and teens (thirteen to eighteen years old). Lastly, adults and caregivers are also given their own group.
Nevada Donor Network partners with Adam’s Place to provide groups in Centennial Hills, East Las Vegas/Henderson and Summerlin. Are you interested in bringing your youngest loved ones to receive this support? Learn more about registering here!
