Celebrating 15 Years With A Second Chance

Written by: Kelley McClellan

Dinorah suffered from high blood pressure for many years. Unfortunately, this led to kidney failure which many people do not know is a direct impact of the disease. Dinorah had to start dialysis three times a week to stay alive and during this time she was listed for a kidney transplant. After about two years of waiting, Dinorah received the call she had been hoping for; a hero was found to give her a second chance at life. She has never known who her heroic donor is by name, but is eternally grateful for the selfless decision they made to leave behind a legacy of hope. After Dinorah received her transplant in 2011, she decided to give back to our community by volunteering to share more about organ, eye and tissue donation with Nevada Donor Network. There are many things that Dinorah loves about being an Advocate for Life. She has been able to meet other transplant recipients, people who are waiting for a transplant and courageous donor families. Dinorah loves that, together, we can support each other and bring awareness to an important cause.

Today, Dinorah celebrates 15 years since she received a second chance at life. For the first time, Dinorah is going to share the words of gratitude she lovingly wrote to the anonymous donor’s family that gave her the ultimate gift. Grab the tissues because this one is a tearjerker!

Register to be a hero in honor of the hero who saved Dinorah's life here!
