First responders, which include emergency medical services (EMS), firefighters and law enforcement officers are the first people to arrive on the scene of many types of emergencies. It is an incredibly taxing role which involves skills that can mean the difference between someone surviving or losing their life. A first responder undoubtedly makes a massive impact on our community. While we know this is an extremely rewarding career, the daily realities of it can negatively impact an individual’s emotional and mental health.
Nevada Donor Network is honored to support first responders who are looking for additional support resources.
First, our team decided to offer a free, virtual first responder and family support group. It is an opportunity for our everyday heroes to come together, no matter their physical location, to share their stories and have a safe place to be vulnerable with their shared life experiences. Their loved ones are also welcome to attend, and they participate in a separate breakout room. There is also an in-person option offered in northern Nevada quarterly. You can find more information here.
Additionally, we routinely support the Northern Nevada Law Enforcement Academy and the Nevada State Police Academies by gifting each of the graduates the book, “Emotional Survival for Law Enforcement,” by Dr. Kevin Gilmartin which is a vital tool for officers and their loved ones. It teaches them about peer support and the need for mental health discussions. Our partnership spreads awareness about organ, eye and tissue donation, but it also supports our future law enforcement leaders. We are grateful for this opportunity to give back!
We are honored to share these types of resources with first responders who protect and serve our community.
